VP Engineering

Overview

In this role you will lead the strategic adoption of AI in engineering to transform how software is built and released. You will set the direction for engineering and architecture across Digital Transformation, establishing standards, tooling, and modern practices. You will drive AI-assisted development, automation, and scalable foundations to boost productivity and shorten time to market. You will partner with cross-functional leaders to deliver a multi-year technical roadmap and coherent architectural direction. This is a high-impact leadership position shaping culture, capability, and delivery at scale.

Responsibilities

• Lead the adoption of AI in engineering and embed it in design, build and test processes
• Establish scalable foundations: standards, golden paths, repository structure, documentation-as-code, reusable scaffolding
• Drive automation across the software lifecycle from build to release to accelerate delivery
• Define engineering practices for faster, reliable software flow (CD, CI/CD, automated testing, release readiness) with Infrastructure/DevOps
• Set software engineering strategy and multi-year technical roadmap aligned to digital and business goals
• Specify standards, tooling and technology stack direction for the function
• Guide architecture direction across Digital Transformation and ensure cross-estate coherence
• Act as escalation and decision point for major technical/design choices across the estate
• Lead and develop Heads of Development, Cyber Development Lead and Enterprise Architect
• Lead the organisation towards culture change and elevated capability through strategy execution and re-platforming initiatives

Key requirements

• Software engineering leadership at scale
