Software Development Manager, Alexa for shopping (Rufus)

Overview

In this role, you will lead the Rufus Agentic team to build scalable AI-powered shopping experiences using LLMs. You will shape the technical vision, partner with product and science teams, and drive engineering excellence across a high-visibility program. You will mentor engineers, unblock execution, and align delivery with strategic business priorities. This is a ground-up opportunity to impact how customers discover and buy products with agentic AI at Amazon.

Responsibilities

• Influence strategic direction by aligning business needs with technical opportunities
• Provide technical leadership, vision, and career guidance to team members
• Foster engineering excellence and best practices across teams
• Define and cultivate an ownership-driven, high-performance engineering culture
• Collaborate with engineering, science, design, and product management in an agile environment
• Anticipate bottlenecks, manage escalations, make trade-offs between business and technical constraints
• Manage a team of SDEs building AI-powered, scalable systems for Rufus
• Clarify requirements and create execution plans with cross-functional teams
• Define tactical steps and a long-term vision to improve efficiency and AI solutions

Key requirements

• Experience managing high-caliber Software Engineers delivering scalable systems
• Experience designing or architecting complex, reliable, scalable software
• Proven track record delivering products in fast-paced, ambiguous environments
• Knowledge of full software lifecycle: coding standards, code reviews, source control, build, testing, live-site operations
• Experience leading multi-tier web services
• Experience partnering with product and program management
