Backend Software Engineer (Mid-level)

Overview

As a Backend Software Engineer at Freetrade, you will help build and maintain a scalable platform used by thousands daily. You’ll work with NodeJS/TypeScript on Google Cloud Platform and PostgreSQL, shaping features that empower investors. You’ll collaborate with product and on-call to address high-priority issues and drive product development. This role sits at the core of Freetrade’s mission to simplify investing and expand its services for users across the UK. You’ll join a growth-focused team that values quality, ownership, and impact.

Responsibilities

• Develop high-quality software within timelines while proposing trade-offs to solve complex problems
• Deliver scalable, maintainable solutions and navigate technical trade-offs
• Collaborate with Product Manager to understand features and KPIs and drive development
• Be comfortable in an on-call environment, respond to high-priority issues, and escalate when needed

Key requirements

• At least 2+ years of professional software engineering experience
• Collaborative mindset with willingness to share knowledge and own design decisions
• Strong commitment to code quality and openness to feedback
• Ability to tackle complex problems independently and with the right collaborators
