Agile Team Lead (Public Sector)

Overview

In this Team Lead role, you will steer an agile team to deliver high-quality bespoke software for external clients, with a focus on the UK public sector. You’ll foster a positive, collaborative culture, remove blockers, and manage risks at the team level, while aligning with a Delivery Manager and cross-functional stakeholders. You’ll also contribute to wider management capability and coaching, shaping how teams plan, forecast, and execute against a product backlog. This is an opportunity to lead impactful public sector projects and drive continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

• Lead an agile team to plan, forecast and deliver against a product backlog
• Remove blockers and manage risks/issues at team level
• Collaborate with Agile Team Leads and stakeholders to prioritise work under the Delivery Manager
• Take on broader management responsibilities and contribute to Management capability
• Coach and develop team members, manage performance and improvement plans
• Provide data, forecasts and progress updates for planning
• Facilitate workshops to capture requirements and align stakeholder understanding
• Maintain constructive relationships with client, suppliers and third parties
• Ensure access to current data and that technical quality standards are followed
• Support the Delivery Manager to deliver projects within budget
• Be flexible and willing to work away from base

Key requirements

• Active SC clearance is mandatory
• Minimum 3 years in a similar role with UK public sector organisations (central government preferred)
• Proven experience as senior scrum master or project manager with hands-on scrum master experience in UK Public Sector
• Minimum 3 years delivering bespoke software projects from scratch using agile methodologies for external customers
• Strong experience in customer-facing projects with UK Public Sector (syncs, reports, presentations, workshops, upscaling)
• Strong managerial and commercial awareness, including cost reporting and budgeting (5M or more)
• Excellent interpersonal skills and high flexibility to travel or work away from base
