Overview

In this Consultant CAMHS post you will lead and support community-based mental health care for children and young people in Mid Essex. You’ll work within multidisciplinary teams to deliver evidence-based care, contribute to service transformation, and uphold Trust values. The role blends clinical leadership, risk management, and supervision of junior staff, with flexibility to fit part-time or job-share arrangements. This is a substantive, part-time opportunity with opportunities to shape CAMHS services and collaborate across sites.

Responsibilities

• Organise and prioritise own and team workload daily
• deputise in the team manager’s absence and delegate tasks to medical staff
• follow Trust protocols and maintain compliance
• maintain accurate records for audit purposes
• manage risk at team level and update risk register
• act as autonomous, GMC-licensed clinician
• provide care plans for complex patient needs across chronic, acute, and palliative care
• initiate referrals to other health professionals and agencies
• inform and educate patients and relatives to support dignity and independence
• ensure practice is underpinned by research and evidence-based guidance
• act as clinical supervisor to junior colleagues and support their development
• support ongoing professional development and training planning
• undertake regular appraisal and personal development planning
• assist in integrating new staff and implementing policy changes

Key requirements

• Inclusion in or eligible for Specialist Register for Psychiatry or within 6 months of obtaining CCT
• Approved Clinician status or eligibility for it
• Mastery in management of a broad range of mental disorders in adults
• Experience with patients from diverse cultural backgrounds; ability to work with interpreters/translators
• Desirable: endorsement in Liaison Psychiatry; NHS governance awareness; change management experience
