Overview
In this role you will own manual validation of embedded hardware and firmware, ensuring reliable, secure monitoring devices. You will work with the hardware and firmware team to reproduce complex issues and support release readiness of high‑reliability builds. The position is site‑based in Leicester with some hybrid flexibility, focused on physical devices and edge cases. You will collaborate with engineers to improve product dependability for public safety technology.

Responsibilities
- Own manual testing across hardware and firmware builds through development and release cycles
- Design and execute detailed test plans, structured test cases, and exploratory testing on physical embedded devices
- Reproduce, analyse, and document defects with logs, device states, and severity
- Verify security fixes and perform rigorous regression checks on critical safety scenarios
- Assess device behaviour across power-up, wireless connectivity, multi-sensor tampering, and state-transition workflows
- Collaborate with engineering teams for root-cause analysis and validation of fixes
- Maintain accurate, auditable QA documentation and test evidence to a high standard
Key requirements
- Proven experience in manual QA testing within hardware, firmware, embedded systems, or connected devices
- Strong experience in physical lab environments and test bench management
- Attention to detail and methodical fault and security vulnerability identification
- Clear defect reporting and ability to summarize outcomes for technical stakeholders
- Excellent communication skills with firmware and hardware engineers
- Ability to work independently, prioritise effectively, and take ownership
- ISEB Foundation Cert.
- Minimum of 4 years in an Engineering/IT environment
- Communicate effectively at all levels
