Protection & Controls Engineer (Design)

Overview

In this role you will deliver high-quality HV and EHV protection design across UK electricity networks. You will work within a technically focused team to develop protection philosophies, perform studies, and produce documentation. You will contribute to design reviews and technical assurance, shaping how protection schemes are applied on transformers, feeders, busbars and cables. This is a pure design position with a clear progression path in a standards-driven environment.

Responsibilities

• Develop protection philosophies in line with DNO / National Grid standards
• Perform fault level calculations, grading and coordination studies
• Design protection schemes for transformers, feeders, busbars and cables
• Produce protection single lines, schematics and calculation reports
• Support technical assurance and design reviews

Key requirements

• Degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent)
• 3–7 years’ experience in Protection & Controls design
• Experience on UK DNO or National Grid projects
• Strong knowledge of HV/EHV protection systems and relays (ABB, Siemens, SEL, GE, Schneider)
• Working towards or holding CEng desirable
