Senior Fire Safety Advisor

Overview

In this role you will lead the Trust’s fire safety strategy and governance across the estate, aligning with NHS Firecode and regulatory requirements. You drive the Fire Safety Management System development, provide expert assurance to board-level committees, and oversee the Authorised Person functions. You will shape a high-impact fire safety improvement programme across complex NHS premises, partnering with Estates leadership and clinical stakeholders. This senior role offers strategic influence at Board level and a pivotal opportunity to enhance patient, staff, and visitor safety.

Responsibilities

• Act as the Trust’s lead fire safety adviser and specialist on healthcare fire safety
• Lead the Fire Safety Management System implementation and ongoing improvement
• Coordinate and oversee Authorised Person (Fire) functions (Risk Assessment, Training, Projects, Maintenance)
• Ensure governance across HTM 05-01 and Firecode guidance
• Provide assurance reports to Executive Committees, Fire Safety Group and Trust Board
• Lead the Fire Safety Improvement Programme and strategy development
• Maintain comprehensive Fire Risk Assessments and ensure risk-based actions are monitored and completed
• Support the Fire Safety Manager function as delegated under HTM 05-01

Key requirements

• Significant experience in fire safety management within a complex organisation
• In-depth knowledge of HTM 05 Firecode, Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, Fire Safety Act 2021, Building Regulations and Building Safety Act 2022
• Experience undertaking or managing fire risk assessments
• Experience advising senior leaders and presenting assurance at executive level
• Strong leadership, influencing, and stakeholder management skills
• Excellent report writing and communication skills
• Ability to manage complex risk, competing priorities and large-scale improvement programmes
