Head of Business Development – Moya Cole

£66,582 – £77,368 | Permanent | 37.5 hours per week | Hybrid / Cross-site (Moya Cole Hospice’s Heald Green and Little Hulton sites)

Lead growth. Build partnerships. Make a lasting difference.

At Moya Cole Hospice, we’re proud to care, proud to work together and proud to make a difference.

We provide exceptional care and support to people living with, or affected by, life-limiting illness. As we look to the future, we have ambitious plans to grow our income, strengthen our financial sustainability and continue investing in innovative, world-class hospice care for generations to come.

The opportunity:

We are seeking an exceptional Head of Business Development to lead our ambitious income generation strategy and drive sustainable growth.

With responsibility for an income portfolio of around £7 million, you’ll lead diverse income streams including retail, fundraising, individual giving and lottery, with significant opportunity to grow and diversify revenue.

Reporting to the Director of Finance & Business Development, you’ll provide strategic leadership to the Business Development function, inspiring a talented team, building high-value partnerships and identifying new opportunities for growth.

This is a role for a strategic thinker, commercial leader and natural relationship builder who can turn insight and opportunity into results, while staying firmly connected to our purpose.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Lead and deliver an ambitious, organisation-wide Business Development and Income Strategy, driving year-on-year growth.
  • Develop new commercial and voluntary income opportunities and identify innovative ways to diversify revenue.
  • Build and nurture influential relationships with high-net-worth individuals, corporate partners, trusts and foundations, including those capable of making significant five- to seven-figure gifts.
  • Lead capital fundraising strategies to support major organisational projects.
  • Use market intelligence, supporter insight and emerging trends to develop compelling propositions and maintain competitive advantage.
  • Lead, inspire and develop a high-performing Business Development team, creating a culture of ambition, innovation and accountability.
  • Work closely with the Executive Leadership Team, Board of Trustees and senior stakeholders to shape and deliver strategic opportunities.
  • Drive performance through effective use of data, technology, CRM and commercial insight.
  • Ensure robust governance, risk management and regulatory compliance across the function.

You will have genuine influence at executive and Board level, while also having the freedom to explore new ideas, challenge existing thinking and turn opportunities into measurable results.

About you

We’re looking for a senior business development, commercial or income-generation leader with a proven track record of delivering significant growth and achieving ambitious revenue targets.

You’ll bring:

  • Extensive senior-level experience in business development, sales, fundraising or a related commercial environment.
  • A demonstrable record of delivering income growth and managing complex budgets.
  • Strong commercial acumen, with the ability to understand P&L, ROI, performance data and market opportunities.
  • Exceptional relationship-building, influencing and negotiation skills.
  • Experience securing and managing high-value partnerships, contracts or philanthropic relationships.
  • Strategic thinking combined with the ability to turn plans into action.
  • Experience of building, leading and developing high-performing teams.
  • The confidence and credibility to influence senior stakeholders, Trustees and external partners.
  • Resilience, energy and curiosity — with a genuine appetite for innovation and continuous improvement.
  • Knowledge or experience of the charitable sector, ideally alongside a strong understanding of income generation and fundraising.

Most importantly, you’ll be motivated by purpose. You’ll understand that every new partnership, every pound of income and every growth opportunity ultimately enables better care and support for people and families when they need it most.

Why Moya Cole Hospice?

This is more than a senior commercial leadership position.

It’s a chance to use your business development expertise to create tangible social impact.

At Moya Cole Hospice, you’ll join an organisation that is ambitious about its future and committed to ensuring it is in the strongest possible position to deliver outstanding care for generations to come.

You’ll be challenged, inspired and empowered to make a difference — with the opportunity to shape strategy, build influential partnerships and leave a lasting legacy.

What we offer

  • £66,582 – £77,368 salary, within a competency-based framework.
  • Permanent, 37.5 hours per week.
  • Hybrid working with cross-site responsibilities across Heald Green and Little Hulton.
  • 35 days’ holiday, increasing to 37 days after five years and 41 days after ten years, inclusive of bank holidays.
  • Option to purchase up to one additional week of annual leave through salary sacrifice.
  • Contributory pension with employer matching of up to 7%, or potential continuation of an eligible NHS pension.
  • Life cover of three times basic salary.
  • Employee health cash plan covering areas including dental, optical and physiotherapy.
  • 24-hour Employee Assistance Programme, including counselling and practical support.
  • Free parking at both main sites.
