Associate Civil Engineer – Water

Overview

As an Associate Civil Engineer in our Water Team, you will help shape Scotland’s water infrastructure through a high-impact programme. You’ll lead multidisciplinary design work on large-scale projects and ensure delivery to budget and schedule. Collaborating with clients and partners, you’ll embed best practices and low-carbon design while mentoring junior staff. This role offers the chance to influence outcomes across Scotland’s water and wastewater networks and support transformational programmes.

Responsibilities

• Lead project teams to deliver high-quality outcomes for clients
• Manage design scope to stay within budget and programme constraints
• Identify and allocate project resources with team leads
• Maintain strong technical understanding and monitor industry practices
• Lead quality assurance for project deliverables and client requirements
• Drive improvements in project delivery through standardisation and low-carbon design
• Develop and mentor junior staff and foster professional growth
• Engage effectively with project stakeholders including clients and external partners
• Embed a safety-first culture and ensure compliance with health and safety legislation

Key requirements

• Bachelor in Civil Engineering or equivalent
• Be professionally qualified with ICE, CIWEM, or actively working towards accreditation
• Significant experience in water or wastewater industry
