Civil Engineer – Urban Development

Overview

In this role, you will design civil engineering elements for urban development projects and support sustainable, integrated design across cross-functional teams. You will work with global colleagues, contribute to high-quality drawings, BIM models, and technical reports, and help ensure safety and design integrity. You’ll collaborate on drainage, utilities, earthworks, and highways interfaces, applying industry standards and Arcadis processes. The position offers opportunities to influence project outcomes and develop with a global practice focused on delivering sustainable solutions.

Responsibilities

• Design civil engineering solutions for projects and support sustainable development practices
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and other design disciplines to ensure design integrity
• Produce drawings, BIM models, reports, and specifications across project stages
• Attend project meetings and review colleagues work for accuracy
• Coordinate with global design teams and implement project collaboration approaches
• Prepare Designer Hazard Logs and communicate residual risks to the Principal Designer
• Contribute input to Design Decision Logs and Project Assumptions registers
• Provide technical guidance to junior engineers, technicians, and apprentices
• Identify and implement engineering management arrangements per Arcadis Integrated Management System
• Resolve technical issues on projects and support engineering governance

Key requirements

• Degree qualified with Chartered or Incorporated status, or nearing chartered status
• Experience in design and delivery of civil engineering/urban development within buildings projects
• Proficiency in drainage (surface water and foul), highways, and utilities design
• Software expertise in MicroDrainage/InfoDrainage, AutoCAD Civil 3D, and BIM integration
• Strong understanding of design codes and construction principles (SuDS, SfA, DMRB, Building Regulations)
• Ability to apply manual calculation methods where software is unavailable
