Principal Scientist, Biomarker Assay Development Bench Scientist

Overview

As a Principal Scientist, you will lead bench research to design, develop, and qualify biomarker assays for preclinical and clinical programs across DAx. You will develop and implement ligand-binding assays (ELISA, MSD, immunoassays) to support target engagement and patient stratification, collaborating with Translational Medicine and DAx teams. You will ensure analytical rigor, interpret data, and contribute to documentation and publications. This role offers impact on translational strategies that enable precision approaches in renal, liver, and fibrosis indications within a matrixed, fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and qualify preclinical and clinical biomarker assays (cellular, soluble, proteomic, genetic, genomic) for pharmacodynamics and patient stratification.
• Lead ligand-binding assay development (ELISA, MSD, immunoassays) with emphasis on fit-for-purpose performance and analytical rigor.
• Perform hands-on assay development, optimization, and troubleshooting in the laboratory.
• Analyze and interpret experimental data ensuring rigor and reproducibility.
• Collaborate with Translational Medicine and DAx teams to align assay strategy with therapeutic area priorities.
• Support biomarker assay implementation in preclinical/clinical studies, including documentation and reporting of results.
• Maintain exemplary lab practices, documentation, and safety/regulatory compliance.
• Present findings in lab meetings and contribute to scientific publications and internal reports.

Key requirements

• PhD or MD, postdoctoral preferred, with 4+ years in relevant field; or BS/MS with 8+ years in relevant field.
• Hands-on experience designing and executing LBA assays.
• Experience in biomarker assay development across matrices for preclinical/clinical studies.
• Proven ability to independently develop biochemical and cellular assays for drug discovery.
• Innovative and critical thinking with track record of scientific impact.
