Lead Systems Engineer

Overview

Lead Systems Engineer at NHS England guiding multidisciplinary teams to design, build and run national, highly available distributed systems. You will work within NHS England engineering principles and own technical decisions across applications, infrastructure, and pipelines to ensure 24/7 service with national impact. You’ll collaborate to raise engineering standards and coach colleagues, driving maturity in the product/platform teams. Responsibilities

• Develop, build and operate national, highly available distributed systems within NHS England
• Adhere to and contribute to NHS England engineering principles
• Take technical ownership across the system space: applications, environments, infrastructure, networks, pipelines and operational tools
• Collaborate with peers to solve engineering problems and raise standards across the organisation
• Drive engineering maturity within the team
• Coach and mentor colleagues to support team development

Key requirements

• Experience on a complex application across all layers of the stack (application, infrastructure, CI/CD, testing, monitoring, alerting)
• Experience taking a lead role: driving design decisions, managing stakeholders, providing technical leadership
• Experience delivering improvements within a product or team
• Ability to work collaboratively to deliver software and develop engineering culture
