ADHD Independent Assessor and Prescriber

Overview

In this role you will join the PCS ADHD service to deliver ADHD assessment, diagnosis and prescribing within primary care, bridging primary care, voluntary sectors and secondary services. You will support people towards better health and wellbeing by linking to health and social pathways. You will assess and monitor patients, ensure safe long‑term management, and contribute to service development in a collaborative, cross‑sector team. This is a full‑time position with a strong impact on patient care and service growth.

Responsibilities

• Deliver structured diagnostic assessments with clear feedback and plans
• Conduct structured follow-up reviews to monitor treatment response and adjust care plans
• Initiate and adjust medications with the pharmacy team within local formulary; arrange baseline and ongoing physical health checks
• Perform brief titration contacts until stability
• Facilitate safe shared‑care transfers to primary care via the Electronic Prescription Service
• Document activity promptly; produce high‑quality day letters and maintain auditable records
• Maintain care standards per local and national guidelines
• Develop professional knowledge and practice; adhere to professional standards and changing care needs
• Recognise when escalation is needed and maintain autonomous professional practice
• Present complex cases at weekly MDT; contribute to audit, incident learning and quality improvement
• Support induction of colleagues and provide day‑to‑day coaching; uphold safeguarding and information governance
• Contribute to service functioning through leadership tasks and documentation of KPI data
• Utilise IT tools and reporting systems, including emerging AI
• Exercise professional judgement for safety in complex situations; escalate concerns as needed

Key requirements

• Experience working with adults with ADHD
• In-depth knowledge of barriers faced by people with health inequalities
• Working knowledge of NICE ADHD guidance, local formulary, risk and safeguarding
• Experience delivering ADHD services
• Registration with NMC, GPhC or GMC with Independent Prescriber Annotation
• UKAAN-trained

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work on own initiative without direct supervision
• Ability to identify risk and manage appropriately within scope of practice
• Experience with Electronic Prescription Service (EPS)
• Ability to use IT tools and reporting systems; familiarity with KPI data
• Knowledge of using local formulary and IT systems; emerging AI tools
