Overview
In this role you will shape software-defined radio (SDR) systems for complex mission environments, ensuring robust, interoperable communications. You will work to define and improve SDR architectures, protocols and interfaces, and model network performance as part of a broader mission-system integration effort. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to test, validate and optimise system performance against stringent standards. Based in Gloucester, the position offers a competitive salary and a clear pathway to influence critical communication capabilities in defence and security programmes.

Responsibilities
- design, integration and optimisation of SDR-based communication systems
- system-level design of SDR architectures and interfaces
- support protocol and interface development
- model network performance and link budgets
- integrate communication systems into larger platforms
- conduct testing and validation to meet performance and interoperability standards
- contribute to system design, verification and validation activities in mission environments
Key requirements
- strong experience in SDR system architecture
- deep knowledge of communication protocols and network design
- experience with link budgets and system integration
- familiarity with OpenCPI, GNU Radio, Python, C/C++, Linux, GitLab
- experience with real-time communications and network management tools
- knowledge of TCP/IP, IEEE 802 standards, cellular standards, forward error correction
