Specialist Doctor in Elderly Care

Overview

In this role you will provide specialist Elderly Care services within a supportive multidisciplinary team, contributing to inpatient and outpatient care for elderly and Parkinson’s patients across Cumberland Infirmary and West Cumberland Hospital. You will join Consultants, SAS doctors and specialist nurses to deliver integrated care in a rural setting, with flexible options for part-time working. The role supports ambitious, high-quality care and sustainability across North Cumbria, aligning with NCIC’s mission to be clinically led and inclusive. This position offers opportunities to shape services in a rural NHS environment and engage in teaching and leadership activities.

Responsibilities

• Provide inpatient and outpatient Elderly Care and Parkinson’s services
• Work as part of an integrated service across Cumberland Infirmary and West Cumberland Hospital
• Collaborate with Consultants, SAS doctors and specialist nurses
• Contribute to high-quality, safe patient care within a multidisciplinary team

Key requirements

• Full GMC registration
• Entry onto GMC Specialist Register (or within 6 months)
• 12+ years post-graduate experience including 6 years in Elderly Care
• Clinical training in geriatrics equivalent to CCT in Geriatric Medicine
• Commitment to teaching undergraduate and postgraduate staff
• Demonstrates leadership and governance awareness

• Excellent verbal and written communication
• Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team
• Empathy and sensitivity
• High standard of clinical geriatrics skill
• Knowledge of audit processes and clinical governance
• Awareness of leadership responsibilities in clinical practice
