Overview

In this role you will support the Ward Manager to lead nursing care on the John Denmark Unit, a deaf specialist 18‑bed unit. You will supervise shifts, act as a primary nurse, and ensure clear communication with the care team and external stakeholders. You will drive clinical development through coaching, supervision, and ward training. You contribute to a culture of openness, learning and high standards of care within a multidisciplinary setting.

Pay / Benefits

  • 30% additional for evenings (8pm onwards) and Saturdays
  • 60% additional for Sundays and Bank holidays

Responsibilities

  • Deputise for the ward manager as required
  • Lead nursing issues within a multidisciplinary team
  • Support communication with Deaf patients (BSL skills desirable)
  • Supervise junior staff and mentor new and less experienced staff
  • Oversee medication management and physical health provision on the ward
  • Assist with HR tasks such as wellbeing monitoring and audits
  • Manage shifts as nurse in charge
  • Conduct risk assessments and risk management plans for incidents
  • Participate in 24-hour rotation of day and night shifts
  • Carry out a full range of caring duties including moving and handling and training in control and restraint

Key requirements

  • RMN/RNLD registration or equivalent
  • Mental health experience and leadership skills
  • Desirable: Deaf MH setting experience or qualifications
  • Must be willing to participate in 24-hour rotation
  • Current UK professional registration
  • Good communication skills (BSL Level 1/2 training provided)
