Principal Mechanical Engineer

Overview

In this role you lead a team of mechanical engineers within Urenco’s Government Services function, delivering FEED and ensuring designs meet standards and customer needs. You drive technical leadership, design oversight, and safe, compliant solutions across major capital programmes. You will act as a key interface between site teams and Group stakeholders, guiding design development and supplier engagement. Responsibilities

• Lead and manage a team of Mechanical Engineers and Senior Mechanical Engineers
• Develop and deliver FEED packages (Conceptual and Basic Design)
• Ensure designs align with Urenco standards and customer requirements
• Provide technical guidance throughout design development
• Oversee detailed design activities and supplier outputs
• Support review/approval of design deviations, concessions, and FAT/SAT
• Promote knowledge sharing and continuous improvement across engineering
• Develop engineering processes, procedures, and standards
• Support training to maintain SQEP capability
• Promote proactive safety culture and design assurance

Key requirements

• Experience leading engineering teams and delivering major plant or infrastructure projects
• Proven FEED, design development, and project delivery experience in regulated environments
• Demonstrable expertise in Mechanical Engineering
• Strong understanding of design management and regulatory compliance
• Strong leadership, stakeholder management, and problem-solving skills
