Portfolio Software Full Stack Engineer (Contractor)

Overview

As a Full Stack Software Engineer on the Portfolio Team, you design, implement and evolve scalable backend services to support decision-making across the organization. You’ll focus on robust backend architecture while collaborating with frontend and product teams to deliver high-quality software. You’ll work with Node.js, TypeScript and modern frameworks, shaping API design and data models in a distributed environment. Your role includes reviewing AI-assisted code and helping drive engineering best practices. This contract position offers an opportunity to impact Arm’s product strategy and internal tooling at scale.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain scalable backend services using Node.js, TypeScript and Express.js or similar
• Design and implement RESTful APIs and service integrations
• Develop maintainable, well-tested code following engineering best practices
• Model data and work with relational and NoSQL databases
• Improve reliability, observability and performance through monitoring and optimization
• Review AI-generated code for correctness, security and maintainability
• Collaborate with frontend, product owners and engineers to deliver high-quality software
• Contribute to technical design discussions and architecture decisions
• Leverage AI-assisted development tools to boost productivity
• Stay current with AI tooling and software engineering practices

Key requirements

• Strong proficiency in Node.js with TypeScript and modern JavaScript (ES6+)
• Experience designing and implementing RESTful APIs and backend services
• Solid understanding of software engineering principles and maintainable architecture
• Experience reviewing code written by others
• Familiarity with AI-assisted development tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, Claude) and evaluating AI-generated code
• Knowledge of software architecture and system design concepts
• Experience with relational and/or NoSQL databases
• Familiarity with Git and modern development workflows
• Strong problem-solving and attention to detail
