Theatre Team Manager – Scrub

Overview

In this role you will provide senior clinical leadership and operational management for the trauma and orthopaedic scrub team within a busy theatre department. You will work closely with surgeons, anaesthetists, and perioperative staff to deliver safe, efficient, patient-centred care across elective and emergency lists. You’ll champion clinical excellence, staff development, and continuous quality improvement while shaping service delivery for orthopaedic pathways. This is a high-impact role in a supportive, equality-driven NHS environment.

Responsibilities

• Provide senior clinical leadership for the designated scrub team in trauma and orthopaedics
• Manage daily theatre list coordination ensuring staffing, equipment, and theatre readiness
• Oversee workforce planning, skill mix, and risk escalation
• Lead on staff development, performance management, and competency achievement
• Ensure infection prevention, asepsis, and theatre safety standards
• Maintain advanced knowledge of trauma and orthopaedic procedures, implants, and instruments
• Support governance, audits, and incident investigations with corrective actions
• Collaborate with surgeons, anaesthetists, floor coordinators, and service leaders to optimise patient flow
• Contribute to service development, pathway redesign, and workforce planning
• Participate in on-call and senior leadership rota and cross-site working

Key requirements

• RN/RODP qualification
• Degree level education or equivalent experience
• Minimum two years in operational/clinical management in an acute hospital setting
• Experience in trauma and orthopaedics or relevant specialty
• Strong leadership, change management, and team-building skills
• Competence in budgetary control, governance, health and safety
• Current UK professional registration
• Commitment to CPD and professional development
