Associate/ Associate Director (LLFA & Flood Risk Management)

Overview

In this role, you will lead flood risk management projects for Local Authorities, contributing to WSP’s Sustainable Water Management growth. You will work from designated UK offices and help deliver technical solutions across a range of flood-related challenges. You’ll mentor junior colleagues, review technical deliverables, and manage projects to balance scope, time, and budget. You will engage clients as a trusted advisor and help expand WSP’s capabilities in water resilience. This is a chance to shape sustainable water outcomes on landmark UK projects.

Responsibilities

• Lead the delivery of high-quality technical deliverables to clients, often as technical reviewer/approver
• Mentor junior colleagues and oversee small project teams
• Manage projects to balance programme, budget and quality
• Develop and secure opportunities for new or extended projects
• Build client relationships and act as a trusted advisor
• Promote strong health and safety practices within the team
• Contribute to expanding technical capability and innovation in water management

Key requirements

• Experience in flood risk management with Local Authorities or equivalent public/private sector exposure
• Understanding of budgets and delivery of flood risk or sustainable drainage outputs
• Knowledge of Flood and Water Management Act 2010, Land Drainage Act, Planning Practice Guidance (Flood Risk and Coastal Change)
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; mentoring capability
• Knowledge of surface water drainage modelling and Sustainable Drainage Systems
• Experience preparing Local Flood Risk Management Strategies and Strategic Flood Risk Assessments
• Proven technical report writing and reviewing ability
• Ability to present and lead meetings with teams and clients
• Chartered status with CWEM, CEnv, CSci, or CEng or working towards chartership
