Principal Process Engineer – Wastewater

Overview

In this role you will drive process engineering for wastewater projects across the full lifecycle, from concept through commissioning. You will work within Jacobs’ UK water team to deliver high-value, sustainable solutions for pumping stations, treatment plants, and CAPEX assets. You’ll collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams and clients to ensure regulatory and safety compliance while optimizing performance. This is a cross-functional, impact-full role at a company renowned for transforming essential water infrastructure.

Responsibilities

• Lead cross-functional engineering initiatives and pilot systems (e.g., membrane bioreactors, anaerobic digestion)
• Develop process flow diagrams and layout plans
• Select and design treatment technologies (e.g., MBR, SBR)
• Implement corrective actions to restore optimum performance
• Project manage wastewater infrastructure delivery across the project lifecycle
• Develop and implement process optimization solutions
• Collaborate with civil, mechanical, and electrical engineers on new builds and upgrades

Key requirements

• Masters Degree in Chemical or Environmental Engineering
• Chartered Status (CEng) with a recognised Professional Institute (beneficial)
• Background in water and/or wastewater networks and treatment works
• Experience with mass water conveyance and heat transfer (as listed)
• Project engineering/management experience
• Awareness of regulatory and safety standards
• Ability to lead or contribute to end-to-end design and commissioning initiatives
