Information Governance Officer

Overview

In this role you will provide expert data protection and information governance support to council services, helping projects meet governance and security standards. You will keep abreast of AI developments, ethics, and risk management to promote best practices across the organisation. You will build training, advise on policies, and lead assurance activities to strengthen information governance. The role offers hybrid working and a chance to impact data protection culture in local government.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical data protection and information security advice to SCC services for projects and systems
• Support information asset and assurance work across SCC
• Investigate data breaches and DP complaints, report trends, implement best practices
• Support information governance audit processes across SCC and partners
• Create and deliver IG training, workshops and awareness material
• Implement and review information governance policies and procedures to support the Information Management Strategy
• Provide advice and support to customers as part of the information governance service level agreement

Key requirements

• Experienced information governance professional with a degree
• Understanding of national standards and best practices in information governance
• Knowledge of local government statutory requirements
• Strong communication and attention to detail
• Desirable: postgraduate IG qualification
• Experience leading large-scale information sharing projects or system implementation
• Experience with M365 products
• Understanding of AI, data ethics and risk management in IG
