Construction Manager-Runway

Overview

In this role you lead a team of craft professionals on a high-impact aviation project in the Greater London area, ensuring safe, on-time delivery of complex civil works. You will coordinate with design and engineering teams to reflect constructability in design and manage execution plans, budgets, and schedules. You’ll mentor staff, uphold safety and quality standards, and drive continuous improvement in project delivery. This is a hands-on opportunity to shape the execution of a landmark infrastructure program in live operations.

Responsibilities

• Lead and supervise craft professionals and subcontract activities on a large civil project
• Coordinate with engineering/design to ensure constructability is reflected in deliverables
• Develop site layouts, temporary works strategies, and logistics for live operation environments
• Contribute to construction execution plans, staffing, and resource estimates
• Collaborate with Procurement and Supply Chain on delivery strategies
• Embed health, safety, and environmental considerations in planning and design
• Review and monitor quality control plans during design and construction
• Maintain awareness of design evolution and its impact on cost/schedule
• Support project controls, including cost estimates, budgets, and risk assessments
• Mentor project and field personnel to foster safety, collaboration, and excellence
• Establish and manage communication with Project Engineer on engineering deliverables
• Review contractor submittals and ensure compliance with drawings and specs
• Coordinate commissioning and handover with Design Management Team
• Support mobilization, logistics planning, and stakeholder introductions
• Drive continuous improvement of delivery processes

Key requirements

• Bachelor in Civil Engineering or related discipline
• Extensive experience as Construction Manager/Senior Field Engineer on major civil/infrastructure projects
• Knowledge of construction methods and sequencing for civil and airfield works
• Experience in live operational facilities and safety culture promotion
• Chartered Engineer (CEng) or equivalent registration
• Experience with NEC contract administration and project delivery frameworks
• Experience with brownfield projects in live environments
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills across multiple disciplines
• Problem-solving ability under pressure and technical leadership
• Understanding of quality management and constructability in multidiscipline projects
• UK CDM regulations knowledge and aviation/airfield project experience
• Ability to coordinate with Design Management Team for commissioning and handover
• Experience with building control requirements and project close-out processes
