Power Systems Engineer – London, Newcastle or Bicester

Overview

As a Power Systems Engineer specialising in data centres, you design and optimise resilient power distribution for large facilities and translate simulation results into actionable design decisions. You will work with multidisciplinary teams on technically complex projects and progress toward Chartered/Incorporated Engineer status with supported mentorship. The role focuses on ensuring reliable power systems for critical infrastructure and offers the chance to contribute to landmark data centre projects across UK locations.

Responsibilities

• Design and optimise resilient power distribution for large-scale data centres
• Deliver studies (load flow, short circuit, arc flash, protection coordination, earthing) that inform design decisions
• Translate simulation outputs into clear reports for project design
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary design teams to address high-stakes challenges
• Progress toward Chartered/Incorporated Engineer status with structured mentorship and support

Key requirements

• Degree in Power Engineering or equivalent (BEng/MEng)
• Experience in power systems engineering (data centre, oil & gas, or utilities backgrounds welcomed)
• Proficiency in ETAP (preferred), DIgSILENT, or SKM
• Working knowledge of LV, MV, and up to 33 kV systems
• Understanding of generators, transformers, motors, and UPS systems
• Working toward MCIBSE, MIET, or Chartered Engineer status
• Strong analytical mindset with clear communication skills
• Familiarity with BS standards and MS Office tools
