Trade Compliance Officer / Trade Compliance Specialist

Overview

In this role you will manage import/export compliance for a defence/aerospace organisation, ensuring adherence to UK and US regulations and providing expert guidance across the business. You will maintain export classifications in the ERP system, support licensing decisions, and assist audits and regulatory reviews. You will act as a trusted contact for employees and coordinate with internal teams and regulatory bodies across multiple UK sites. This role offers hybrid working in Buckinghamshire and the opportunity to influence compliance across the full project lifecycle. You will work in a cross-functional environment to enable compliant delivery and business growth.

Responsibilities

• Maintain export classifications in the ERP system with accurate data
• Update ERP records with export information, licenses, and approvals
• Conduct supplier and customer screening in line with trade compliance
• Ensure compliance with UK export control legislation and regulatory requirements
• Support ECJU and HMRC audits, compliance reviews and site visits
• Assist with US ITAR, EAR, and Dual-Use regulation compliance
• Guide purchasing, engineering, commercial, and project teams on import/export matters
• Maintain import/export registers and documentation per audit/regulatory requirements
• Support trade compliance activities through the full project lifecycle
• Act as a trusted contact for trade compliance queries
• Support the TC Manager and wider compliance team

Key requirements

• Experience in defence, aerospace, or other highly regulated manufacturing environments
• Knowledge of UK import/export legislation for military/defence products
• Working knowledge of US ITAR and EAR regulations
• Experience supporting export licensing, classification, and trade compliance processes
• Strong attention to detail and documentation management
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, customer-focused environment
• Experience with ERP systems and compliance databases
• Strong stakeholder management and the ability to explain regulatory requirements to non-specialists
• Experience with UK and international trade compliance regulations across a complex product portfolio
