Consultant Physician in Acute Medicine

Overview

As a Consultant in Acute Medicine, you will provide senior clinical leadership within the AMU and oversee acute medical admissions. You will play a key role in patient flow, early discharge, and multidisciplinary collaboration, while supervising junior staff. The role supports service development, governance, and teaching to strengthen clinical quality. Responsibilities

• Provide senior clinical leadership within the Acute Medical Unit (AMU)
• Manage acute medical admissions and post-take ward rounds
• Oversee Same Day Emergency Care pathways
• Support patient flow, early discharge and multidisciplinary working
• Supervise junior doctors and Advanced Practitioners
• Contribute to teaching, clinical governance, audit and service development
• Develop a specialist interest or additional clinical skill as needed by service

Key requirements

• Full GMC registration with a license to practice
• MBBS/MBChB or equivalent
• MRCP (UK) or equivalent
• GMC Registered or CCT or equivalent accreditation in Acute Medicine or General Internal Medicine
• Extensive experience in acute medical receiving and general medicine
• Strong clinical leadership, communication and multidisciplinary teamwork skills
• Commitment to teaching, audit, quality improvement and clinical governance
