Overview

In this role, you will contribute to a Target Malaria project focused on self-sustaining gene drive systems using CRISPR/Cas9, with the aim of reducing mosquito reproduction and malaria burden. You will work within the Crisanti group at Imperial College, collaborating across a large team of postdocs and technicians. You will plan and execute independent research, publish findings, and present at meetings and conferences, while mentoring junior staff. This position offers a path to influence global malaria eradication efforts through innovative genetic strategies and cross-disciplinary collaboration.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and conduct original research within a multi-disciplinary team
  • Publish results in refereed journals and present findings at meetings
  • Contribute to grant applications and compile sponsor reports
  • Supervise and train undergraduate and postgraduate students and junior staff
  • Develop and refine molecular approaches to vector control and gene drive testing
  • Collaborate with international partners and travel to collaborating sites as needed

Key requirements

  • PhD in molecular biology and genetics or closely related field
  • Significant experience with genetic approaches to population control of disease-vector mosquitoes
  • Proficiency with CRISPR/Cas9 and genome editing
  • Experience in molecular biology methods and laboratory/insectary practices
  • Strong organizational, communication, and planning skills; ability to lead small teams
  • Desirable: transcriptomic analysis, DNA sequencing, and bioinformatic data analysis
  • Demonstrated supervision/mentoring of junior staff and students
