Data Centre Team Leader

Overview

You will lead a 4+ person Data Centre Operations team in a 24/7 North Acton environment, driving MAC, BAU, and hardware deployments. You’ll coordinate incident management, change records, and vendor activity while mentoring colleagues and collaborating with clients and management to improve processes. This hands-on leadership role combines people leadership with technical execution in a banking/financial services setting. The opportunity focuses on delivering reliable data centre operations at scale and shaping operational excellence.

Responsibilities

• Lead and supervise a team of 4+ DC Operations Engineers
• Manage MAC and BAU activities across the data centre
• Oversee server, network hardware and rack installations
• Perform copper and fibre patching, SFP installations and connectivity testing
• Support break/fix, troubleshooting and daily health checks
• Manage change records, asset management and ticketing systems
• Coordinate equipment moves, decommissions and disposals
• Coordinate third-party access, deliveries and vendor activities
• Support incident management and service delivery
• Train and mentor new team members
• Lead shift activities and support projects from design to handover
• Collaborate with the client, Data Centre Manager and Service Delivery Manager to improve processes

Key requirements

• Essential: experience in a banking/financial services IT environment
• Strong MAC experience in data centres, including IT hardware deployment
• Extensive structured cabling experience (copper and fibre)
• Fault-finding and testing expertise, ideally with Fluke equipment
• Knowledge of FTP, UTP and optical fibre cabling standards
• Proven leadership or supervisory experience
• Experience with asset management and ticketing systems
• Experience with change management and service delivery
• Experience managing third-party vendors
• Strong organizational, communication and problem-solving skills
• Comfortable working in a 24/7 environment
• Certifications such as CompTIA Server+, CompTIA Network+, BICSI, CDCTP, CCNA DC or ITIL would be advantageous
