Deputy Head of Safeguarding

Overview

In this role you support the Head of Safeguarding to uphold statutory safeguarding duties across Powys Teaching Health Board. You will provide expert safeguarding advice, shape policies and ensure alignment with Welsh legislation and government priorities. You’ll lead safeguarding portfolios, promote embedding safeguarding within governance and quality frameworks, and deputise for the Head of Safeguarding as needed. This is an opportunity to influence safeguarding practice at scale within a holistic health board setting and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

• Develop, implement and evaluate safeguarding strategies, policies and frameworks across the Health Board
• Support the Head of Safeguarding to align with Welsh Government priorities, legislation and safeguarding procedures
• Provide specialist expert advice to senior clinicians and managers on highly complex safeguarding matters
• Lead delegated safeguarding portfolios
• Deputise for Head of Safeguarding
• Promote a culture where safeguarding is embedded within quality, safety and governance frameworks
• Contribute to organisational responses to safeguarding developments
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure statutory safeguarding obligations are met

Key requirements

• Professional registration with NMC
• Extensive recent experience in safeguarding adults and children with working knowledge of relevant legislation
• Experience leading organisational change in safeguarding practice and learning from reviews
• Proven ability to resolve conflict/difficult situations
• Desirable: Senior Leadership and Management qualification
• Desirable: knowledge of unexpected death in childhood processes
• Desirable: panel member/chair or reviewer in CPR/APR/DHR/SUSR
