Development Director

Overview

In this role you will lead HUC’s commercial growth and create a clear path to sustainable opportunities aligned with our mission and values. You will work with the Executive Team to shape strategies across Commercial Modelling, Business Development, and Market Development & Communications, ensuring complex proposals are robust and well-governed. You will drive geographic expansion, new services, and strategic partnerships while building a strong pipeline and relationships with commissioners and providers. Responsibilities

• Lead the development and delivery of the growth strategy aligned to priorities, vision and values
• Identify and shape growth opportunities across new and existing markets
• Oversee a high-value pipeline with prioritisation and progression
• Provide expert commercial advice and governance with senior stakeholders
• Interrogate complex proposals and financial models for robust decision-making
• Lead opportunities around geographic expansion, new services and partnerships
• Build relationships with commissioners, providers and executive stakeholders
• Identify market trends to support diversification and innovation
• Inspire and lead the commercial development teams with accountability and collaboration
• Integrate expertise of Heads of Modelling, Business Development and Market Development & Communications to deliver growth
• Champion sustainable commercial development and long-term impact

Key requirements

• Significant senior-level bid management experience for complex bids of 20m+ per annum
• Demonstrable ability to model complex services with sound financial understanding
• Experience leading high-performing teams in a matrix environment
• Excellent analytical, communication, negotiation, and influencing skills
• Ability to translate operations into clear commercial models
• Strong stakeholder management with influence at senior leadership level
• Experience using data analytics to support data-driven decision making
• Track record of budget management, cost controls and driving efficiencies
• Strong NHS/health sector knowledge with partnerships in political landscape
• Ability to manage varied demands and timescales with inclusive leadership
