Overview

In this Consultant Psychiatrist role in the Mental Health Liaison Team, you will deliver expert psychiatric assessment and treatment for adults referred from the Emergency Department and hospital wards. You will support the wider nursing team, ensure continuity of care across the week, and help shape new care pathways in line with the NHS Long Term Plan. The post combines clinical work with teaching, research, and involvement in service development. This is an opportunity to contribute to high-quality patient care within a supportive, research-active Trust.

Responsibilities

• Provide specialist medical and psychiatric assessment and treatment for adults 17+ referred from ED and inpatient wards
• Support the nursing team and ensure continuity of care across the week
• Develop new care pathways and integrate psychiatric care with the NHS Long Term Plan
• Participate in teaching and training of medical, nursing, and allied students
• Engage in research activities within the liaison psychiatry service
• Contribute to clinical audit and quality improvement initiatives
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver care in a general hospital setting

Key requirements

• MB BS or equivalent medical qualification
• Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise
• Included on the GMC Specialist Register OR within six months
• Approved clinician status OR able to achieve within 3 months
• Able to work with General Adult and Older Adult patients
• Desirable: experience in Addictions psychiatry, Neuropsychiatry or Psychotherapy
• Excellent knowledge in specialty and clinical skills using bio-psycho-social perspective
• Strong oral and written communication in English
• Ability to deliver undergraduate/postgraduate teaching and training
• Demonstrated commitment to leadership and collaborative improvement
