Lead Test Engineer (Public Sector)

Overview

In this Lead Test Engineer role, you will steer testing strategy and execution within a multi-skilled agile team to deliver high-quality software. You’ll lead test design across automated, manual, and non-functional layers, ensuring coverage aligns with quality goals and user needs. You’ll coach and develop a small team, collaborate with customers, and mentor peers to solve complex testing challenges. Responsibilities

• Define and drive testing strategy for multi-layer testing (automated, manual, non-functional)
• Design, implement, and maintain test scripts and approaches across all application layers
• Foster a CI/CD mindset by configuring/testing in CI environments (Jenkins/TeamCity)
• Lead and develop a small team, manage performance and career development
• Interact with customers, share knowledge, and mentor colleagues

Key requirements

• Adequate coverage across testing layers in line with testing principles
• Experience designing and maintaining tests (manual and automated) across all layers, including non-functional testing
• Experience with open-source test automation tools (Selenium, JUnit, TestNG, Cucumber, Cypress) and CI tools (Jenkins, TeamCity)
• Proficiency in at least one object-oriented language (e.g. Java)
• Strong understanding of software architectures
• Experience managing others and conducting performance reviews
• Keen interest in learning new QA tools, technologies, and methodologies
