Overview

In this Chief Operating Officer role, you will lead day-to-day operations to deliver the Trust’s plan, performance targets, and high-quality clinical care. You will partner with clinical groups to drive service delivery, transformation, and financial sustainability while advancing digital innovation. You will shape an inclusive, high-performing culture and model the Trust’s values through compassionate leadership. This is a strategic opportunity to impact patient care, equity, and system collaboration at board level.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee day-to-day delivery of the operational plan and performance against NHS oversight targets
  • Provide executive leadership to clinical care groups and coordinate services across divisions (emergency, elective, cancer, diagnostic, outpatient)
  • Lead performance management and drive continuous clinical and quality improvement
  • Ensure services are financially sustainable and leverage digital innovations
  • Foster a compassionate, skilled, and flexible workforce and promote diversity and inclusion
  • model values, lead change with clarity and resilience, and report to the Managing Director
  • Contribute to the Board as an executive non-voting member
  • Support collaboration across partners and system-wide initiatives
  • Drive transformation initiatives to improve outcomes and patient care

Key requirements

  • Track record delivering large-scale operational services in a complex NHS/healthcare environment
  • Deep understanding of NHS strategy, performance, and quality improvement
