Building Engineer

Overview

In this on-site role with Amey for the MoJ/HMP Cardiff account, you will deliver planned and reactive building maintenance to ensure safety, compliance, and reliable operation of critical systems. You will collaborate with site engineers while also working independently to keep custodial facilities well-maintained. The role focuses on essential safety and infrastructure tasks within a busy prison environment, emphasizing risk management and timely service delivery. Responsibilities

• Manage availability of critical parts for statutory tasks and remedial work in the CAFM system
• Perform general and semi-skilled maintenance including CCTV and alarms
• Conduct monthly checks of fire extinguishers, fire hydrants and hoses
• Carry out quarterly RCD testing and inspect Misting Units
• Maintain fire doors; perform flushing and temperature testing of taps per water risk assessments
• Conduct monthly and annual emergency lighting checks
• Test and inspect smoke vents as required
• Undertake additional duties as required

Key requirements

• Multi-area maintenance qualifications (ideally in several listed areas)
• Experience in general building maintenance
• Custodial environment experience desirable but not essential
• Basic Health and Safety knowledge
• Willingness to obtain Prison Security Clearance (Amey supports process)
• IT skills
