Senior Electrical Engineer

Overview

In this role you will lead and mentor the electrical design team within Balfour Beatty’s highways projects, ensuring quality, safety and regulatory compliance across design workstreams. You will collaborate with senior engineers, design managers and project teams to coordinate milestones, reviews and construction queries. You will push for sustainable, low-carbon and offsite construction solutions while shaping commissioning strategies and design workflows to meet project timelines.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with Principal Engineer and design managers to capture milestones and review dates
• Verify specifications, datasheets, drawings, and 3D models for quality, safety, and standards
• Coach and mentor junior engineers within the electrical team
• Respond to design queries and change requests from construction and supply chain to ensure timely, accurate outcomes
• Contribute to CDM and commissioning strategy discussions
• Identify and implement design improvements with Principal Engineer and design managers
• Coordinate with other departments on design requirements
• Ensure quality control throughout the design workflow in line with project schedule
• Support other leads and engineers to deliver high-quality outputs on time
• Promote sustainability, low-carbon design, and modular/offsite construction gains

Key requirements

• Engineering degree or equivalent knowledge
• Chartered status or working towards Chartered status (preferable)
• Experience with water-sector assets and capital projects (essential)
• Solid knowledge of relevant regulations, standards and codes of practice
• Experience in leadership, mentoring and coaching of junior engineers
• Strong stakeholder engagement skills
