Advanced Mental Health Clinical Pharmacist (Inpatients- Chelmsford)

Overview

In this role you lead clinical pharmacy for inpatient mental health services, working across Mid and South Essex to improve medicines-related care and pathways. You will model best practice on wards, mentor the pharmacy team, and contribute to training, education and research to sustain high-quality care. You deputise for the Pharmacist Team Manager and engage with cross-functional teams to drive transformation and patient outcomes. This is a full-time position with flexible on-call requirements and a focus on impact and leadership.

Responsibilities

• Provide highly specialised advice in medicines optimisation within a multidisciplinary team
• Develop and implement high-quality, evidence-based, cost-effective medicine use to maximise patient benefit and minimise risks
• Act as senior referral point and undertake clinical audits to improve services
• Advise patients and carers on medication actions and use; support seamless transfer of care
• Handle cases involving challenging/complex behaviour and monitor physical health to optimise therapy
• Participate in clinical teams to ensure safe and effective medicine use
• Communicate complex clinical pharmacy advice for mental illness management to maximise benefit and minimise risk
• Develop tools to support safe use of psychotropic medicines
• Plan and organise clinical area research and audit
• Plan, organise and deliver education and training to secondary healthcare staff, patients and carers

Key requirements

• Current and continued GPhC registration
• Postgraduate Diploma in relevant area or willingness to work towards
• Member of Royal Pharmaceutical Society (and potentially Faculty)
• Member of College of Mental Health Pharmacy
• Desirable: Independent Non-Medical Prescriber or willingness to pursue; management qualification
