Family Solicitor – Public Law Care – Cardiff

Overview

In this role you will manage a caseload of public law children matters within a Cardiff-based family team, handling care proceedings, advocacy, and cross-professional collaboration. You will advise on child protection issues, comply with Legal Aid requirements, and draft essential documentation. The role offers exposure to complex cases and opportunities to develop advocacy skills in a supportive, hybrid work environment. You will contribute to vulnerable clients while progressing within a growing department.

Responsibilities

• Manage own caseload of public law children matters in care proceedings
• Handle case management hearings, interim applications and contested final hearings
• Advise on child protection, local authority intervention and threshold issues
• Draft statements, position statements, and bundles
• Conduct advocacy in the Family Court
• Collaborate with counsel, CAFCASS, local authorities and other professionals
• Ensure compliance with Legal Aid Agency requirements and regulatory standards

Key requirements

• Minimum 2 years’ PQE in Family Law
• Strong experience in public law care work and Legal Aid matters
• Knowledge of private family work (divorce/finance) beneficial
• Experience supervising or willingness to supervise
• Excellent communication and ability to handle sensitive matters professionally
• Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
• Panel membership (Children or Family) advantageous
