Senior Machine Learning Engineer

Overview

In this role you shape AI-powered infrastructure solutions that drive efficiency and sustainability. You will own the ML lifecycle from problem framing to deployment, delivering models that intersect with engineering and product teams. You’ll tackle complex, ambiguous problems and translate them into scalable, production-ready AI solutions. Your work directly impacts real-world infrastructure challenges and helps advance AECOM’s mission to build a better world.

Responsibilities

• Lead design and development of advanced ML models with measurable impact across engineering and infrastructure
• Own end-to-end modelling lifecycle from problem formulation to deployment and iteration
• Tackle complex, ambiguous problems and translate them into scalable ML solutions
• Design robust experimentation frameworks and evaluation methodologies for real-world performance
• Diagnose model failure modes and continuously improve models post-deployment
• Collaborate with MLOps and software engineering to productionize models while maintaining quality
• Partner with product managers, engineers, and domain experts to embed AI into the SaaS platform
• Provide technical leadership across ML initiatives, mentoring engineers and shaping modelling approaches and direction

Key requirements

• Proven experience developing and deploying ML models in production settings
• Master’s or PhD in related field
• Strong expertise in Python and ML frameworks (PyTorch, TensorFlow, scikit-learn)
• Deep model design, optimization, and evaluation beyond standard approaches
• Strong intuition for model failure modes, generalization, and real-world trade-offs
• Experience owning ML initiatives end-to-end from problem definition to deployment
• Ability to independently scope, execute, and deliver high-impact ML initiatives
• Clear communicator who explains complex modelling decisions to diverse stakeholders
