Director – UK Charity

We are seeking a qualified accountant to serve as our Independent Examiner and perform the annual financial review for submission to the Charity Commission.

This role involves examining our annual financial records, verifying compliance, and preparing our formal statement of accounts. The bulk of the work takes place once a year in the Spring and is estimated to take approximately 1-2 days in total.

This position is ideal for a recently retired accountant, a qualified finance freelancer, or a seasoned professional looking for a focused annual charity engagement. Ability to work remotely, with occasional access to our London office (EC1R) if physical record checks are required.

Key Responsibilities:

• Conduct an annual Independent Examination of the charity’s financial accounts in accordance with Charity Commission guidelines (Directions issued under section 145 of the Charities Act 2011).
• Review accounting records and ensure the prepared accounts accurately reflect the financial health and transactions of the charity.
• Prepare and sign off the formal Independent Examiner’s Report for submission alongside our annual return to the Charity Commission.
• Collaborate with our internal team to resolve any queries or documentation requests efficiently.

Key Requirements & Qualifications:

• Qualification: CCAB-qualified accountant (e.g., ACA, ACCA, CIMA, CIPFA) or equivalent recognised professional accounting qualification with valid membership.
• Charity Accounting Knowledge: Demonstrable experience conducting Independent Examinations or managing charity accounting and Charity Commission filings from the operational side.
• Software Experience: Hands-on experience with ExpensePlus is highly advantageous (we recently migrated to ExpensePlus for our financial management).
