The Role
Are you a pharmacist with a passion for making a meaningful difference in the lives of people living with mental health conditions? NHS Lanarkshire’s Mental Health and Learning Disability (MHLD) Pharmacy team have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic clinical pharmacist to join our team of dedicated pharmacy professionals.
The successful candidate will work as part of the clinical pharmacy team and the wider multidisciplinary team providing pharmaceutical care to patients within the adult mental health wards in University Hospital Wishaw with the opportunity to work across other mental health subspecialties to develop experience and clinical skills.

Please note this is a fixed term post for 12 months. Where a post only has temporary funding and an existing member of NHS Lanarkshire staff wishes to apply, this will be treated as a secondment. The employee MUST already have written agreement from their line manager to be released on a secondment before applying for the post.
Location and Working Pattern
The Adult mental health wards in North Lanarkshire are based within University Hospital Wishaw.
- Mental health and learning disability services are board-wide and there will be a need to travel across NHS Lanarkshire and beyond at times as part of this role.
There is currently no requirement to participate in on-call for this role, however this may be subject to change as the service develops. Please refer to the role profile for the organisational diagram of the MHLD pharmacy team.
What You’ll Bring
- Masters of Pharmacy Degree
- Registered member of General Pharmaceutical Council
- An independent prescribing qualification or must work towards this qualification
- Evidence of postgraduate training and professional development in clinical pharmacy practice
- Relevant post-registration experience in clinical pharmacy
- Ability to act independently and manage own workload
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team and multi-disciplinary environment
- Good clinical knowledge, a commitment to quality with high standards of pharmaceutical care and a dedication to lifelong learning.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Experience in education and training of other professionals and trainees.
- Commitment to revalidation as per directions of General Pharmaceutical Council
- Ability to drive
It would be great if you also have
- Experience of working within specialist mental health services.
- Experience in supervising staff
- Proven project, practice research and audit skills
