Site Supervisor – Civils

Overview

In this role you will oversee highway and civil works on site, ensuring safe, on-time delivery to specification. You will coordinate crews, subcontractors, and plant while maintaining quality and compliance. You’ll engage with authorities, clients, and project teams to drive efficient progress and mitigate risks. This position offers the opportunity to shape site performance and safety culture within a highways-focused team.

Responsibilities

• Supervise Section 278 highway works for local authorities and principal contractors
• Manage day-to-day site operations for kerbing, road construction, resurfacing, drainage and related groundworks
• Coordinate labour, plant, materials and subcontractors to meet programme targets
• Lead daily site briefings, toolbox talks, and inductions
• Ensure compliance with Health & Safety legislation, CDM regulations, and procedures
• Monitor quality to drawings and specifications
• Liaise with local authorities, highways inspectors, utility providers, clients, and stakeholders
• Manage permits to dig, permits to work, traffic management, and temporary works
• Maintain site records, diaries, inspections, progress reports, and workforce documentation
• Identify and mitigate site risks while promoting a positive safety culture
• Assist Project Managers and Contracts Managers with programme delivery and resource planning
• Monitor productivity and ensure safe, efficient delivery within budget

Key requirements

• Extensive experience in highways, civils and infrastructure
• Strong knowledge of Section 278 works
• Experience supervising kerbing, drainage, excavations, road surfacing and back-end groundworks
• Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications
• Excellent communication and leadership skills
• Strong understanding of Health & Safety and CDM Regulations
• Experience liaising with local authorities and highways departments
• Proven ability to manage multiple activities in a fast-paced environment
