Overview

As Production Manager you will oversee day-to-day and strategic production operations using the Fortive Business System to meet defined quality at minimum cost. You’ll lead and develop the Norwich-based production team, ensuring on-time delivery and continuous improvement. You’ll drive budget discipline, training, and performance discussions, shaping processes and standards. This role offers impact through implementing FBS, Kaizens, and cross-functional collaboration to strengthen operations.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure adherence to standard processes across the production area and contribute to new process development and improvements
  • Deliver revenue, reduce past-due backlog, and achieve on-time delivery for all Norwich site products
  • Train and coach team members to defined standards and maintain ongoing adherence
  • Manage performance through appraisals, 1:1 reviews, and disciplinary actions
  • Develop the team via training materials, external courses, and coaching
  • Recommend career progression and salary changes for team members
  • Utilize Daily Management to monitor performance, drive improvements, and prioritize production support
  • Monitor discretionary spend and escalate budget issues as needed
  • Lead the implementation of Fortive Business System (FBS) in production area
  • Provide supervision to Production Team Leaders and Planners; act as 1:1 manager for assembly operators/technicians
  • Resolve team conflicts per company procedures and coach managers to ensure consistent communication
  • Direct day-to-day operations with strategic direction from Operations Manager
  • Review and approve discretionary spend within approved budgets
  • Interact daily with subordinates, peers, site management, HR, and global teams
  • Engage in daily meetings, performance reviews, and continuous improvement events
  • Develop FBS depth and breadth within the team

Key requirements

  • Production planning/scheduling experience
  • Lean production experience
  • Strong team leadership and coaching experience
  • Good communication and cross-functional collaboration skills
  • PC literacy including Microsoft Office
  • Budget awareness and basic financial oversight
  • Ability to manage performance and disciplinary processes
  • Experience working within a structured system (FBS preferred)
