Software Security Engineer

Overview

In this role you lead the security aspects of product development across the full lifecycle, guiding engineering teams and ensuring secure design, implementation and support. You’ll provide hands-on guidance on security requirements, architecture, and coding practices, while evaluating tech choices and conducting risk analysis. You’ll drive process improvements and maintain clear security documentation and metrics. This is a growth-focused engineering role in a collaborative, expanding software team with a strong security-first mission.

Responsibilities

• Lead security across the full software development lifecycle (concept, design, delivery, in-service support)
• Provide hands-on guidance on security requirements, architecture, coding standards and best practices
• Assess technologies/frameworks and support selection for projects
• Conduct security assessments and risk analysis; identify vulnerabilities and define mitigations
• Drive continuous improvement of processes, methodologies, tools, and engineering practices
• Maintain current security documentation and produce security reporting/metrics

Key requirements

• Experience in developing complex software in regulated/security-conscious sectors
• Hands-on software security experience with relevant standards and best practices
• Strong collaboration and technical leadership with effective communication and problem-solving skills
• Interest in emerging technologies and current security challenges
• Embedded software/firmware experience beneficial but not essential
• STEM degree or equivalent experience; able to work across disciplines
• Security clearance: British Citizen or dual UK national with British citizenship
