iOS Engineer

Overview

In this role you will build and maintain the Guardian iOS app, focusing on delivering fast, reliable, and accessible experiences. You’ll work with a cross-functional team of designers, editors, and commercial colleagues to ship features from design through release. You’ll contribute to architectural discussions and help evolve engineering practices. The role offers hands-on coding, collaboration, and opportunities to innovate on mobile experiences within a mission‑driven newsroom.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain iOS features from design to release
• Develop new features and improve existing functionality
• Collaborate with designers, editorial, and commercial teams
• Review peers’ code to maintain high quality
• Contribute to architectural discussions and engineering practices
• Deliver high-quality user experiences through cross-functional collaboration
• Participate in hack days and ship notable features (e.g., home screen widget)

Key requirements

• Experience developing iOS applications in Swift
• Strong understanding of SwiftUI and UIKit and Apple’s core frameworks
• Ability to independently deliver well-scoped features through to release
• Willingness to contribute to architectural discussions
• Collaborative approach with product managers, designers, and engineers
• Curiosity and commitment to continually develop technical skills
• Familiarity with Kotlin for Android, or Scala/Typescript for server-side development is useful but not essential
