Senior Lecturer in English for Academic Purposes (EAP)

Overview

In this role you will lead high-quality English language provision and contribute to curriculum development, assessment design and quality assurance within the English Language Unit. You will collaborate with academic schools and services to embed language support that helps multilingual students succeed, while shaping strategy and governance for EAP provision. You’ll combine teaching excellence with leadership, mentoring and partnerships to enhance graduate outcomes.

Responsibilities

• Lead development, review and QA of institutional English language proficiency assessments
• Design and validate assessment materials for reliability and sector alignment
• Lead moderation and standardisation across assessors
• Create training materials and train staff involved in language testing and assessment
• Support governance and QA for English language assessment
• Monitor outcomes and drive continuous improvement of testing processes
• Deliver high-quality EAP teaching across in-sessional and embedded provisions
• Lead innovative teaching to improve outcomes for students using English as an Additional Language
• Provide academic guidance and mentoring to colleagues
• Design, implement and evaluate embedded language provision across academic schools
• Collaborate with ELU staff at other sites, programme leaders and academic teams to integrate language into curricula
• Develop sustainable embedded support models aligned with institutional priorities
• Lead curriculum reviews and strategic enhancement of EAP provision
• Develop partnerships with academic schools, Admissions, Recruitment and external partners
• Advise academic colleagues on supporting EAL students
• Represent the ELU on university groups and committees
• Contribute to strategic development and quality enhancement of English language provision
• Contribute to policy development and sector best practice
• Mentor less experienced colleagues and contribute to staff development

Key requirements

• A recognised undergraduate degree or equivalent qualification
• DELTA, DipTESOL, or closely related qualification in English language teaching
• Minimum 3+ years Higher Education EAP teaching experience
• Demonstrable experience developing and quality assuring English language assessments
• Experience in curriculum development and working with academic departments
