Substation Project Engineer

Overview

In this role, you will drive delivery of island-based transmission projects within SSEN Transmissions Offshore, enabling connections to HVDC and AC plant at up to 400 kV. You will work with offshore and onshore teams to shape scope, layouts and safety-enabled designs that meet network security and performance goals. You will review designs, witness FATs, manage tenders and ensure compliant, high-quality installations. This role offers a path to impact the clean electricity transition while collaborating across cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities

• Create outline scope, site location plans, primary plant/substation layout and Single Line Diagrams for projects up to 400kV
• Review contractor/consultant detailed designs and witness Factory Acceptance Tests
• Implement safety by design principles to control engineering and safety risks
• Support site and operational teams to ensure installation quality with minimal network security risk
• Evaluate tenders and procure/manage specialist services from consultants

Key requirements

• Experience in transmission level substation projects up to 400kV including AIS and GIS
• Understanding of Transmission network management legislation and related regulations (CDM, Electricity Safety, Quality and Continuity Regulations)
• Problem solving attitude with ability to address critical issues through project teams
• Excellent communication, diligence and task prioritisation
• Degree or HND in Electrical Engineering; Chartered Engineer or on the path to accreditation preferred
