Technical Director Town Planner

Overview

As a Technical Director in Arcadis’ Environmental Planning team, you lead environmental and consenting work on diverse projects, shaping planning outcomes and building strong teams. You will drive multidisciplinary delivery, influence project development, and grow client relationships across national and international contexts. The role blends leadership with technical depth in environmental input, aiming to improve quality of life through sustainable solutions. A clear hook is the opportunity to lead in large-scale energy, infrastructure, and development projects while shaping the PEAM practice.

Responsibilities

• Lead recruitment, growth, bidding, and project delivery within the Leadership group
• Coordinate and deliver planning and environmental work across multi-disciplinary teams
• Support business development through external market activities and client engagement
• Raise awareness of services and develop new client contacts
• Engage with consultees and stakeholders
• Manage projects focusing on technical quality, safety, and commercial performance

Key requirements

• Excellent knowledge of the UK Planning system and consenting process, including EIA practices and case law
• Experience on a range of project types
• Strong report writing, presentation, and review skills
• Experience in multi-disciplinary coordination and leadership of projects
• Consulting and negotiating with planning authorities, regulators and stakeholders
• Commercial expertise including forecasting, project management and QA
• Relevant degree or equivalent qualification, preferably chartered status or working towards
• Full Member of RTPI
• Delivery experience of DCO/TWAO/Hybrid Bills
