Fleet Superintendent – Offshore

Overview

In this role you will take full technical responsibility for a portfolio of vessels, ensuring safe, compliant and efficient operations. You will collaborate with vessel crews, clients and internal teams to deliver robust maintenance planning and strong operational performance. The position operates within a fast-paced, globally oriented environment, driving safety, reliability and regulatory compliance. A clear impact comes from improving maintenance and performance across the fleet, with opportunities to shape technical standards.

Responsibilities

• Take overall technical responsibility for a fleet of vessels to ensure safe, compliant, and efficient operations
• Plan, coordinate and oversee maintenance, repairs, dry dockings, modifications and statutory surveys
• Ensure compliance with Flag State, Class, statutory and company management system requirements
• Monitor technical performance (fuel efficiency, machinery reliability, maintenance trends) and implement corrective actions
• Manage planned maintenance systems and keep maintenance schedules, repair histories and records up to date
• Build strong relationships with Masters, Chief Engineers and onboard teams to provide technical guidance
• Liaise with owners and clients, delivering regular technical updates, budgets and performance reviews
• Prepare vessels for Port State Control, Flag State, Class and third-party inspections with Marine and Quality teams
• Manage technical budgets and vessel expenditure, obtaining client approvals as required
• Participate in senior officer selection, performance reviews and development of onboard technical teams
• Identify technical risks, investigate defects and address safety, environmental or reliability issues promptly
• Conduct regular vessel visits to assess condition, maintenance standards and onboard safety culture

Key requirements

• A recognised Marine Engineering, Naval Architecture or equivalent maritime qualification
• Sailing experience as a senior engineering officer or relevant shore-based technical management experience
• Strong understanding of maintenance, dry docking, Class and statutory compliance
• Excellent planning, organisational and problem-solving skills
• Strong written and verbal communication with multiple stakeholders
• Commercial awareness with experience managing technical budgets and vessel expenditure
• Ability to manage multiple priorities across several vessels in a busy environment
• Desirable: experience as Fleet Superintendent or Technical Superintendent; experience in an international ship management organisation; membership of IMarEST or similar; experience with ShipSure, AMOS or similar
