TECHNICAL DIRECTOR, CIVIL ENGINEERING

Overview

As Technical Director, you will lead and shape technical strategy for major infrastructure projects within a global civil engineering practice. You will act as a senior technical authority across multidisciplinary teams, guiding engineering excellence and client engagement. This role encompasses bid support, business growth, and mentoring future leaders, across sectors including energy and defence. You will influence standards and delivery on high-profile programmes while working in a hybrid UK-wide role.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic technical leadership across multidisciplinary civil engineering projects
• Advise clients and senior stakeholders on technical direction
• Drive technical excellence, innovation and adherence to best practices
• Support bids and business development to win work
• Strengthen client relationships and develop engineering capability
• Mentor and develop future leaders within the practice
• Shape technical standards and quality across projects

Key requirements

• Chartered Civil Engineer
• Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent
• Extensive experience in senior technical and leadership roles
• Strong expertise in drainage, utilities, pavements, earthworks, access and construction logistics
• Detailed knowledge of design standards and CDM requirements
• Commercial awareness and track record in winning proposals and growing business
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
• Experience in energy or defence sectors advantageous
